Description
Arch Lodge, located at the junction of the M5 motorway and A41, is a lodge that likely dates from the early 18th century and may have been designed by William Smith, according to Pevsner. The structure features a pedimented gateway made of rusticated sandstone ashlar topped with a slate roof. To the left, there is a curved flanking wall constructed of brick with sandstone coping, which ends in a battered rusticated pier. The gateway itself has a round arch with moulded imposts, flanked by engaged Doric columns and a Doric pilaster on each side. The passage between the gateways is covered by a tunnel vault with ribs. Sandwell Hall, which the lodge served, was demolished in 1928.
