Description

Grove Junior School is a late 19th-century building located on Grove Lane in Handsworth. It is constructed of brick with stone dressings and features a tiled roof. The front of the school is symmetrically designed with four broad single-storey gabled bays. The outer bays are recessed and topped with polygonal louvred wooden cupolas. Each bay has a large arched window with a prominent keystone that extends to a stone band, and there is a slit window in the gable. Flanking these are two narrower gabled bays, which are two-storeyed and have windows set in stone. The left side features the Girls' Entrance, while the right side has the Boys' Entrance. At the rear, angled to Dawson Road, there is a range of four gabled bays, each with a large arched window. Between the second and third bays, there is a polygonal louvred timber cupola on a louvred square base. This design shows a variation on the theme of the Rookery Road Junior and Infant School.
