Description

GROVE LANE 1. 5104 Handsworth B20 Grove Junior school SP 08 NW 6/12 II 2. Late C19. Brick with stone dressings; tiled roof. To Grove Lane an essentially symmetrical range. Four broad single-storeyed gabled bays, the outer ones recessed and with polygonal louvred wooden cupolas astride their roofs. Each bay with a single large arched window with big keystone reaching up to a stone band and, in the gable, a slit window. Left and right of this and recessed still further a single narrower bay, also gabled but here 2-storeyed. With windows set in stone. To the left the Girls' Entrance; to the right the Boys' entrance. Behind, at an angle to Dawson Road, a range of 4 gabled bays, each with a single large arched window. A polygonal louvred timber cupola on a louvred square base astride the ridge between bays 2 and 3. A variation on the theme of the Rookery Road Junior and Infant School (qv).
