Description
Nos 90 to 94 Vyse Street, built between 1855 and 1860, are a row of two-storey, three-bay red brick houses that have been converted into workshops. They feature a strong engineering brick plinth and a first-floor stucco sill band, topped with a decorative frieze adorned with rosettes, a dentil string, and modillion brackets beneath the boxed eaves of a common slate roof. The houses have three-light sash windows set in panelled architraves with cornices, supported on the ground floor by scrolled consoles. Above the doorways are narrower round-headed windows with gauged brick arches. Number 93 includes late 19th-century two-storey wooden canted bay windows with festoons on the aprons. The entrances have six-panel doors within panelled reveals and rectangular fanlights, framed by plain stucco surrounds and fronted by engaged Roman Doric column porches with deep entablatures. This row represents late domestic housing in the jewellery quarter, notable for its bold detailing and decorative frieze.
