Description

This is a large and monumental former engineering works, dating to around 1912 and 1920. Constructed primarily of red brick with gault brick dressings, the building exhibits Arts and Crafts influences through cut and pierced brick detailing, alongside stone dressings. The prominent ground floor features a giant arcade with panelled stone imposts and semi-circular stone arches. Above, two upper floors are characterized by paired window bays divided by brick piers and flanked by broader brick pilasters. A stone cornice sits above, supporting a panelled brick parapet incorporating pierced decoration. The south-west corner is designed as a tower, with a bevelled return and small stone mullioned windows, complemented by raised brickwork detailing. The south elevation mirrors the main front, with rendered aprons to the windows. To the right of the main facade, a three-bay machine shop extends and links with a 1938 addition. This section continues the giant ground floor arcade and features a projecting stone cornice, topped by a deep parapet with a gable. The parapet is adorned with a large panel of ceramic tiles displaying the company's name in a slightly scrolled Edwardian lettering style.
