Description

Vaughton Gothic Works is a goldsmiths' and silversmiths' manufactory built in 1902 by Sidney H. Vaughton for Messrs P. Vaughton and Sons. The building is constructed of red brick with terracotta dressings and features a slate roof in a Jacobean style. The main facade facing Livery Street has two storeys above a basement and displays an asymmetrical arrangement of windows. This includes terracotta mullion-transom windows, a slightly advanced gabled bay to the left with pierced finials, and a prominent five-light window on the first floor with a cambered head. The entrance features panelled double doors topped with a tall cambered arch overlight and a cambered cornice above, flanked by side-lights. Moulded shafts are present between the bays on either side, along with a moulded eaves cornice. Above the first-floor windows, there is a frieze with strapwork decoration and the inscription "GOTHIC VAUGHTON WORKS" in Gothic script.

At the rear, there is a workshop range with large metal-framed windows on both floors, which housed the plating and polishing shops. A detached two-storey range to the southwest, occupied by Jackson and Froggatt, features large multi-pane metal frame windows and includes single-storey north-lit sheds for press, enamelling, and die-casting shops. The interior is reported to be largely in its original form, retaining fittings and a hearth.
