Description

Park Mount House is a substantial stucco villa dating to around 1829-30, constructed under a Calthorpe lease. It is situated within park-like grounds, now used as a golf course. The east entrance front features a deep plinth, rusticated quoins, a deep, shallow entablature that returns from the porch across the ground floor, with the top course acting as a sill band to the first floor. There is a frieze and flat, shallow, boxed eaves to a hipped slate roof, with later brick chimneys. The ground floor windows are tripartite and set on a plinth. The first-floor windows are wood casements within architrave surrounds. A monumental Greek Doric coupled fluted column porch is set on plinths, featuring a deep entablature with slight breaks in line with the columns and Greek Doric pilasters to the wall. The porch provides access to double-panelled doors within a panelled pilaster frame and a cornice, topped by a rectangular fanlight. The south return consists of three bays with windows set in shallow rectangular panels. The west front has a left-hand break rising to three storeys, representing the service side. A round-headed stair window is located on the first floor, off-centre, and a built-out section of the ground floor includes a rusticated doorway.
