Description
The Church of St Patrick is a Roman Catholic church built between 1876 and 1895. It is constructed of red brick with stone dressings and features a tiled roof. The west end faces the road and has a gabled entrance flanked by buttresses that have cupola-like tops. Above the entrance is a canopied statue niche, with tall two-light windows on either side and large sexfoils above them. To the left of the entrance is the baptistry, which has an apsed end. To the right, there is a bell turret adorned with pronounced gargoyles, followed by a much lower lean-to bay that includes a subsidiary entrance to the church. This entrance leads into a vestibule that runs behind the entire facade of the church. Inside, there is an arcade of four bays with a choir loft above the vestibule. The chancel has a flat east end, against which stands an elaborate reredos featuring relief panels and intricate crocketting. The chancel walls have been redecorated but still retain some angels with outspread wings.
