Description
Nos. 44A, 44B, and 45 to 49 Loveday Street form a late 18th century three-storey red brick terrace consisting of single bay houses, some of which include shops. There have been some alterations to the windows and eaves in the second half of the 19th century. The buildings feature a steeply pitched half-hipped roof covered with old tiles. A moulded brick eaves band runs along the top. The windows are horned glazing bar sashes with cambered header brick arches on the ground and first floors, while the top floor has square windows under the eaves.
The circa 1860-70 shop fronts include paired designs for 44B-45 and a single front for 44A, all featuring carved designs with fielded panels on the pilasters, console brackets flanking friezes, and moulded cornices. There are three lent windows with colonette corner shafts, thin mullions, and transoms, as well as splayed back lights to the doorways and panelled risers. This terrace is an important example of each house type.
