Description

This building, numbers 100 and 101 Bath Street, dates to circa 1840 and occupies a corner location with Loveday Street. It was originally designed as workshops. The building presents a plain red brick side elevation, but its front, facing Bath Street, is finished in stucco to create a monumental appearance, reminiscent of a chapel. It is three bays wide, with the centre bay slightly recessed. The front is framed by prominent quoin pilasters which extend through two stories up to a deep frieze, a string course, and a moulded cornice. The cornice finishes with a blocking course raised as a block pediment over the recessed centre bay. The windows are small-paned and have iron frames, with decorative panels between the storeys on the outer bays. The central bay contains a recessed doorway framed by Tuscan pilasters and a plain entablature, leading to double panelled doors with a rectangular fanlight above, approached by a flight of steps.
