Description
Nos 37 and 38 on Princip Street are early to mid 19th century three-storey houses located at a corner site with Lower Loveday Street. The buildings are constructed of stucco over brick, which has faded, and were likely renovated around 1900 when a mansard slate attic was added to the single-storey wing on Lower Loveday Street. The Princip Street facade features three bays, a bevelled corner, and a two-bay return with a four-bay wing. The ground floor is rusticated up to the first-floor sill course, and there is a shallow eaves cornice. The windows are set in architrave surrounds with dentil cornices on the first floor, and they include circa 1900 glazing bar sashes. The entrance to the yard and the house door on Princip Street are framed with wooden pilasters and a pediment. The corner doorway is round-headed, flanked by stucco pilasters that align with each street, and long strips continue up to the cornice, which is shaped to follow the pilasters. The wing has segmental arched high-set windows and two round-headed doorways with rustication incorporated into the arches. There are flat-roofed dormers with glazing bars added around 1900.
