Description
The Men's Pavilion, part of the Bournville Club, was built in 1902 by H Bedford Tyler. The building features brick construction with half-timbering and pebbledash on the upper storeys, topped by a tiled roof. Facing the Recreation Ground, it has a nearly symmetrical design set on a high podium. This includes a broad arched entrance with steps on either side leading up to a lower viewing gallery, which is enclosed by wooden railings and supported by bulging square piers beneath a tiled roof. Above this, there is a subsidiary viewing gallery featuring an advanced gabled bay on the left with a three-light transomed window, and on the right, a polygonal turret topped with a conical roof and large curved iron brackets for the guttering. A central square louvred cupola is visible on the skyline. The road-facing side is also nearly symmetrical, with three gabled bays; the central bay is advanced and contains a door, while the other two bays project slightly on corbels at the first floor level.
