Description
The road bridge at the end of Deykin Avenue, over the Tame Valley Canal, dates from around 1840 to 1850. It is a cast iron bridge featuring a depressed arch and plain spandrels. The girders support deck panels that have a sharply curved return to the brick abutments. Stone strings on the abutments continue the cast iron design of the bridge, and the bridge has cast parapets with solid X panels. It is likely that the bridge was made by Horseley Ironworks. This structure is part of a group that includes the adjacent lock and canal cottage.
