Description
The Methodist Church Hall, built in 1893, is a Grade II listed building located on Lozells Street in Lozells. It is constructed of red brick with stone dressings and features a slate roof. The design is symmetrical, with a prominent gabled centerpiece flanked by low porches on either side. This centerpiece is elevated on a high brick podium that includes the coursed stone battered bases of brick turrets on each side of the gable, which are topped with Arts and Crafts style stone cupolas.
Beneath the gable, there is a large Palladian-style reading room window, characterized by its divisions marked by triplets of slender columns without entasis, and above it, a triplet of arches supported by a stone string course. The building has a richly carved and bracketed stone eaves cornice. To the left and right of the centerpiece, there are lower blocks featuring single tall arched windows. The entrances on either side of the centerpiece are accessed by steps leading up to low porches, each with two arches that contain elaborate wrought iron gates, separated by a short, stout column that extends down to the base.
