Description
The Gunmakers Arms Public House is a corner public house built around 1908, featuring two storeys constructed from machined bricks and terracotta with Flemish Renaissance details. The façade includes pilasters on pedestals that highlight deep splayed reveal camber arched bar windows adorned with leaded lights. The upper floors are decorated with terracotta boarding. A canted oriel bay window is supported by a console voussoired bracket and features a handle arch under a finialed gable. The building has a ribbed extended chimney stack at the shaped gable end facing west.
Inside, the public house retains its complete bar fittings with extensive tilework throughout. The public bar curves around the angle of the room and is entirely faced in rich polychrome tile work, showcasing a bombe front and panels featuring griffin heads, garlands, and ribbons, along with a mahogany bar top equipped with hand pumps. The bar back consists of fluted pilaster composition, backed by tilework and topped with Art Nouveau stained glass. The outdoor fittings are similar, with the bar back incorporating a fine cut glass mirror.
