Description

Nos 42 to 45 on Upper Dean Street are early to mid-19th century buildings that have been altered over time. They are constructed of brick, painted on the ground floor, with stucco dressings and a slate roof. The buildings rise three storeys and consist of eight bays. The third bay features double doors leading to the back, while the first floor has a segment-headed casement window flanked by pilasters and set within a broad flat arch. The second floor includes a sash window, also flanked by pilasters, and resting on a deep sill band. Although the ground floor has been altered, the doors remain within their doorcases, which are flanked by pilasters and topped with finely dentilled cornices. Most of the windows are blocked, but they were likely originally sashes, with the second-floor windows having panelled aprons. The eaves cornice is bracketed, featuring particularly large brackets on either side of the facade.
