Description
The Canal House at the junction of the Worcester and Birmingham Canal with the Stratford on Avon Canal dates from around 1802 and is more substantial than a typical lock keeper's house. It is a two-storey building made of red brick with painted stone dressings. The canal-facing elevation is symmetrical with three bays, featuring an advanced central bay with splayed corners. It has a shallow frieze, a moulded cornice, and a coped parapet that returns to the sides. The windows are late 19th-century wood casements set in original sash openings, with not gauged brick arches and keystones. The doorway in the central break is adorned with a Doric column entablature. This well-proportioned canal building is situated in a fine setting at the junction of the canals.
