Description

Collets Brook Farmhouse is a turnpike toll house that has been converted into a farmhouse. It was built in the early 19th century and extended around the mid-19th century. The building is constructed of red brick in a mixed garden wall bond and features a slate roof with gabled ends and deep eaves at the front, along with lead rolls over the hips of the front bay. There are brick gable end stacks.

The original toll house has a rectangular plan, likely consisting of two rooms, with an entrance located in a central canted bay. A wing was added to the rear in the mid-19th century.

The farmhouse is two storeys high and has a symmetrical east front. This front features a central two-storey canted bay with a panelled door that has a small 20th-century wooden porch. There are casement windows flanking the side walls and a 16-pane sash window above, flanked by blind windows. Both the north and south gable ends have elliptical recesses with imposts; the south is rendered while the north has two windows on each floor, one of which is blind. The rear wing has a splayed northwest corner due to the alignment of the side road and includes a casement window on the south side. The interior has not been inspected.

The farmhouse likely dates back to the Tamworth Road Turnpike, which was established in 1807.
