Description
Erdington Abbey, located on Sutton Road in Erdington, was begun in 1880 and features a northeast range that connects to the church, designed by A E Dempster. The building has a sober stone exterior with two storeys and an attic, topped by a steep gable-end slate roof. It includes gables and lucarne dormers, as well as simple grouped lancet light windows. The structure was extended between 1896 and 1898 in a similar plain style, adding a lofty, square, buttressed tower designed by Harry Haigh, who was the nephew of the founder. Further plain enlargements occurred in 1904, which included the southwest wing.
