Description
The Town Hall, located in Victoria Square, is a Grade I listed building. It was designed by J A Hansom and E Welch, winning a competition in 1830, with construction starting in 1832 and later enlarged by Charles Edge. The building features Anglesey marble and is designed as a peripteral temple in the Corinthian order, consisting of 8 bays by 15. It is raised on a high rusticated podium with round-headed openings. The cellar walls include tall windows with eared surrounds, which stand on a moulded string course. The interior was altered between 1926 and 1927.
