Description
Number 10 Market Place is a Grade II* listed building dating from 1714, likely designed by Francis Smith. It is constructed of local sandstone ashlar, which was previously in poor condition, leading to significant loss of detail. The building features an impressive design with tall fluted Corinthian pilasters at the corners, supporting entablatures. It has a hipped roof covered with old tiles and a modillioned cornice. The structure consists of three storeys and attics, with a plinth that has horizontal rustication. There are three pedimented sash dormers, with the central dormer having a segmental pediment. Moulded bands run along the first and second floors. The building has five sash windows with glazing bars, framed by eared architraves with keystones. The ground and first floor windows have segmental heads, and the first and second floor feature panelled window aprons. Inside, there is an 18th-century staircase and a panelled room.
