Description

No 2, New Street, originally known as the Bank of Dames, Tomes & Russell (later Tomes, Russell & Tomes), was established in 1791. This 18th-century ashlar house features a modern wooden cornice and a machine-tiled roof. It has two storeys with a slightly projecting centre and three windows. The left-hand ground floor window is set in a countersunk panel. The wooden door frame has reeded jambs and flat cornice brackets beneath a blocked segmental fanlight. There is a 19th-century shop front on the right. This building is connected to No 15, Old Square.
