Description
No 1 on New Street is an early 19th century building that stands three stories tall and features six windows. It is constructed from severe red brick, with sash windows set in plain reveals. The entrance boasts an impressive doorcase with an open pediment, supported by attached Doric columns and an entablature. The door itself is a six-panel design with a semi-circular fanlight above. A plain stone string band runs along the first floor sill level and is painted. At the eaves, there is a slender moulded stone cornice. The roof is low pitched and covered with Welsh slates. The windows are topped with flat arches and include glazing bars. To the left, there is a 19th century shop window featuring pilasters, a frieze, and a cornice. A lower wing on the right side has one window. Nos 1, 3, 5, and 5A form a group.
