Description
Nos. 59-63 on Warwick Road are a group of three cottages dating from the late 18th century to early 19th century, with some elements dating back to around 1700. The cottages feature a mix of internal timber framing and are constructed from red brick, topped with renewed tile roofs. They stand at one storey and attic, and two storeys high, with a total of four windows on the upper floor. The windows are casements with glazing bars, and the eaves are dentilled.
Cottages 59 and 61, located on the left, have a flush-panelled door set under a round arch leading to a side passage on the far left. Cottage 61 has a 20th-century panelled door beneath a hood on brackets, flanked by 20th-century bow windows, and features two gabled half-dormers. Cottage 63 has a left section that is two storeys high, with a six-panel door under a hood on brackets, a bow window to the left, and a three-light window above. The right part of 63 matches the style of 59 and 61, with two bow windows and a full dormer. Various brick stacks are positioned alongside the two-storey section of 63.
Inside cottage 61, there is a chamfered spine beam on transverse rails, with rear wall posts and framing visible on both the ground and first floors. The exposed principal rafter trusses include collars and some windbraces. A rear wing from the 18th century contains oak ceiling beams and exposed purlins. It is likely that the framing from around 1700 continues in cottage 59.
