Description

The Cottage is a 17th-century building, originally one structure, now divided into two dwellings at numbers 10 and 12 Smith Street. It is three storeys high and has three flush gables. Number 10 is constructed of square timber framing and features a 6-fielded-panelled entrance door, wood casements, and a cement plinth. Number 12 has walls of sandstone blocks. A rainwater head of moulded lead, enriched with a relief carving of a cupid’s head and dated 1686, is present. The roof is covered with well-weathered machine tiles, and there is a single-storey stone extension to the rear with an old tile roof. Number 10 contains a staircase that was added after 1694. Numbers 4 to 28 (even) form a group.
