Description
The building at 1 and 3 Smith Street dates to around 1500 and was originally two dwellings, later part of King’s High School for Girls. It is a timber-frame structure with a tiled roof. The building is two storeys high. The front elevation features two small, flush gables and a gabled cross wing on the left side, constructed of heavily squared timber framing with diagonal bracing. The right-hand side of the front features closer-set studding. Much of the infilling is modern plaster and roughcast. The plinth has been rebuilt in brickwork. A 19th-century door and metal casement windows with diamond-shaped glazing bars are present. Nos 1, 3 and 5 form a group.
