Description
Holywell Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from the 15th century, with a 16th-century cross-wing to the right and 20th-century additions to the left. The building features close-studded timber-framing with brick infill on the ground floor of the cross-wing, and large timber-framing with brick infill on the first floor of the cross-wing. The central range is constructed of brick, topped with an old plain-tile roof, and has a brick lateral stack on the right return of the cross-wing. The layout likely follows that of a traditional hall house plan.
The farmhouse is single storey with an attic and consists of a 2-bay original central range, accompanied by a 2-storey cross-wing to the right. There is a 20th-century door leading to a porch on the right side of the central range, which is covered by a catslide roof that extends as a verandah across the central range. The windows are 20th-century casements arranged in irregular patterns, and there are 20th-century full dormers on the central range.
Inside, there is a winder staircase located between the ground and first floors to the right of the central range, along with two pairs of cruck trusses in the central range. The 20th-century additions to the left are not of special architectural interest.
