Description
Woodloes Farmhouse is a substantial farmhouse dating from 1781, located on Woodloes Lane. It is constructed of ashlar stone and features a hipped roof covered with old tiles. The roof has a slightly projecting central gable with moulded coping and kneelers. The building has two storeys and an attic, with a two-light attic casement that has a flush chamfered surround and a stone mullion. The first floor has three-light stone mullion and transom casements with flush chamfered surrounds, which project on carved console corbels and are adorned with fluted friezes and cornices. A moulded band runs along the ceiling level of the ground floor, and there is a plinth with torus moulding.
On the first floor, central corbels flank four panels, one of which displays the date 1562, while the other three feature shields with the initials AB, RB, and ER. There is also carved foliage in the panel beneath the attic window. Inside, the farmhouse includes wood carving around the hall archway, a much restored segmental fireplace arch, and a late 17th century or early 18th century bolection moulded chimneypiece. Woodloes Farmhouse and the South Barn are part of a group.
