Description
Nos 4, 5, and 6 St Michael's Place are part of the Leprosy Hospital of Saint Michael, which was founded in the 12th century. The buildings feature a 15th-century structure built on 12th-century foundations and are often referred to as the Priest's or Master's House. They exhibit heavy, closely set timber framing with brick and some cement infilling. The buildings have later wooden casements and doors, are two storeys high, and have an old tiled roof. This site is one of the very few surviving leprosy hospitals from the early Middle Ages. Nos 4, 5, and 6 St Michael's Place, along with Nos 108 and 108A, form a group of considerable historic significance.
