Midland Sales And Training Centre, Thomas Potterton Limited

The Midland Sales and Training Centre, associated with Thomas Potterton Limited, is a building from 1781 located at No 86 Saltisford. It is listed primarily for its historical significance as an early example of a nearly complete range of buildings constructed for a gas works. The structure features a symmetrical design made of painted Roman cement, with semi-circular-headed window openings and panelled reveals throughout.

The building consists of a single-storey central block flanked by two-storey wings that curve in plan. At each end of the elevation, there are large octagonal pavilions topped with slate roofs, which have simple domical ventilators. The wings include pointed arched glazing bars on the first-floor windows, with two windows on each side. The end pavilions display tall arched panels on each face, featuring a double arched panel within another, complete with imposts on each floor.

There are cornices on the wings and the central block, as well as parapets on the pavilions. The left pavilion has one ground floor window with pointed arched glazing bars. The single-storey central section is rusticated and has a segmental gable above a pair of plain arched windows.
