Description
Number 18 is a villa dating from approximately 1835 to 1838, with later alterations. It was designed by William Thomas. The villa is constructed of pinkish-brown brick, with a painted, cement-rendered facade, and has a Welsh slate roof. It is of three storeys and has three first-floor windows. The design is in the Neo-Gothic style. The two outer bays project and each has a pointed gable to the front. The first floor features pairs of four-pane lancet windows with margin-lights in chamfered, straight-headed surrounds on the left and right, and a similar single window to the centre. The second floor has similar single-light lancets in chamfered surrounds. Seven steps lead to the central entrance, which has a pointed-arched door with Gothic panels within a chamfered surround, set within a projecting porch with a four-centred arch and chamfered surround. A six/six sash window with Gothic glazing bars is located to the left, and a pair of three-pane lancet windows are in a straight-headed, chamfered surround to the right. There is an end stack with copings. The interior is not included in the listing. An embattled wall abuts to the right. A map from 1834 depicts Lansdowne Circus and Crescent laid out for future development. Number 18 forms part of an architectural group with Victoria House and Numbers 19 to 57 (odd) Lansdowne Crescent, all also designed by William Thomas.
