Description
No. 38 Hamilton Terrace is a villa, now used as offices, built around 1834 with later alterations, likely designed by James Morgan. The building features pinkish-brown brick with a painted stucco facade and a Welsh slate roof. It has two storeys and five first-floor windows, with a recessed bay on the left. The ground floor has a moulded plinth and horizontal rustication, while the first floor is marked by a moulded band and Ionic pilasters between the second and third, and the third and fourth windows, as well as at the right end, topped with a frieze.
The entrance, located in the left bay, is accessed by three steps and features a six-fielded-panel door with an overlight set within a tooled architrave. The windows on the ground floor are 2/2 sashes, while the first floor has a narrow 4/4 sash to the left and otherwise 6/6 sashes. The building has wide eaves, a hipped roof, and end stacks, with an upshot to the left. The interior has not been inspected.
Historically, Hamilton Terrace was laid out in 1833-1834, and Nos. 10-38 (even) form a group with No. 2 Newbold Street and No. 40 Holly Walk.
