Description

Stratton Lodge is a villa, now functioning as a club, built around 1834, likely designed by James Morgan. The building features pinkish-brown brick with painted stucco facades and a Welsh slate roof, complemented by a cast-iron balustrade.

The exterior consists of two storeys with four first-floor windows, an attic, and a basement at the rear, along with a single-storey, two-window extension. On the first floor, there are two 1/1 sash windows, while the other openings are blind, with plain reveals and sills. The ground floor has an entrance beneath the second window, featuring a glazed door with an overlight, set within a distyle Tuscan porch that includes engaged pilasters, a frieze, and a cornice. To the left is a 1/1 sash window, and the remaining openings are blind, again with plain reveals and sills. The building has wide eaves and front and end stacks, with a roof dormer at the rear.

On the right return, there are four tall 1/1 sash windows with margin lights and blind boxes. The first floor has a central blind, round-arched opening situated between two 1/1 sashes, all with plain reveals and sills. The ground floor features a continuous balcony with a diamond-and-circle motif.

The interior has not been inspected. Historically, Hamilton Terrace was laid out between 1833 and 1834. Stratton Lodge is part of a group with Nos 10-38 (even) and No.2 Newbold Street and No.40 Holly Walk.
