Description

Cedar House, including the area railings to the west and south, is a late 17th century brick building, dating around 1700, with painted plaster dressings such as quoins and a string band. It features a steeply pitched plain tile roof with gables on the north and east sides and is L-shaped in plan. The building has a painted moulded plaster eaves cornice and consists of two storeys and an attic, with five bays on the west and four bays on the south.

The west elevation facing Bridge Street has three early 18th century sash windows on the ground floor, set in cased frames with glazing bars, painted lintels with keyblocks, and cills. There is a central later stuccoed Roman Doric portico with paired entrance doors and a rectangular fanlight. In the south bay, a pair of doors is set in a pilastered doorcase with an entablature and a cornice supported by carved corbels. On the first floor, there are two blocked windows and three early 18th century sash windows similar to those on the ground floor, along with one hipped dormer featuring a pair of casements with leaded lights.

The south elevation facing Church Street has four early 18th century sash windows on the ground floor, and on the first floor, there is one blocked window and three early 18th century sash windows similar to those on the Bridge Street elevation. There are also two hipped dormers, each with a pair of leaded casements. A large square brick ridge stack is centrally located on the Bridge Street frontage, with another ridge stack at the east gable. The early 19th century area railings are present to the west and south. To the north on Bridge Street, there is a late 18th century brick two-storey, one bay addition.
