Description

The Old Vicarage is a mid-18th century red brick house located on Hatton Green in Hatton. It has a plain tile roof with gabled ends and is two storeys and an attic in height, originally with a three-bay front. The windows are sashes with glazing bars, set within flat-arched openings accentuated by key blocks. The central doorway features a cornice, a rectangular fanlight, and a glazed and panelled door. Dormers with sash windows break the eaves. Brick stacks are located at the ends of the building. A two-storey, one-bay addition was built to the left in the 18th century.

The house was occupied by Dr Samuel Parr (1747-1825), a noted classical scholar and pedagogue, who served as perpetual curate from 1785 until his death. During his tenure, he received numerous distinguished visitors, enlarged the house, and constructed a library containing over ten thousand volumes.
