Description

The Post Office is a building of group value, dating from around the early 16th century or possibly earlier, and originating as a hall house. Only one bay of the original hall and service wing remain. A substantial wing was added in the early 20th century. The original portion is timber-framed with brick nogging and roughcast rendering. It now forms a cross wing to the modern addition. The building is two storeys high and has a gable ended plain tile roof. Most of the windows are modern, but a casement window in the gable end dates from around the early 19th century. Inside the hall, the floor is modern, but it retains arched braces beneath the tie-beam and wind braces. The service bay features chamfered ceiling beams and heavy joists.
