Description
No. 132 Parade is a house that has been converted into a shop, built around 1810-1814 with later additions and alterations, including mid to late 20th century shop fronts on the ground floor. The building features a pinkish-brown brick stack with a painted stucco front facade and a concealed roof. It stands four storeys tall and has two first-floor windows. The first floor showcases horizontal rustication and tall 6/6 sash windows. The second floor has 6/6 sash windows with sills, while the third floor contains 3/3 sash windows, all set in plain reveals with cambered heads, incised voussoirs, and raised keystones. The ground floor includes a 20th-century glazed entrance within the shop front. A tall stack with a cornice is located on the right side of the building. The interior has not been inspected.
Historically, the Parade was named in 1860. It was originally known as Lillington Lane, renamed to Union Row around 1809, and then Union Parade. The lower section of the street was laid out between 1810 and 1814. Initially built as houses, lodging-houses, and hotels, many of these buildings had become shops by 1850. The original structures were brick fronted. No. 132 is part of a notable group of buildings in the area.
