Description

These houses, numbered 134 and 136, Parade, Royal Leamington Spa, were built around 1810 to 1814, with later additions and alterations, including late 20th-century shop fronts on the ground floor. The exterior is pinkish-brown brick with ashlar dressings, and the roof is concealed. The building is two storeys high, with four first-floor windows arranged in a 2:2 pattern. The first floor has tall 6/6 sash windows with plain reveals. A sill band marks the second floor, where there are also 6/6 sash windows. The third floor features 3/3 sash windows with sills, all set within rusticated flat arches with raised keystones. There are copings to the roof. The interior has not been inspected. Originally known as Lillington Lane, the area was renamed Union Row around 1809, and later, in 1860, The Parade. It was laid out between 1810 and 1814 and was initially designed to include houses, lodging houses, and hotels. By 1850, many of these buildings had been converted into shops. The original construction featured brick frontages.
