Description
The obelisk to Henry Bright, dated 1880, is located in Royal Leamington Spa. It features a sandstone base topped with a pinkish-grey granite obelisk and a plaque. The base is square in shape and includes a water bowl at the front, which is now filled in, and is set within a semi-circular niche that contains a shell and a non-functioning fountain. The base has two steps leading up to a stepped and chamfered rusticated design.
The pedestal is supported by four short, square pillars at the corners, with recessed granite plaques in between. The front plaque bears an inscription, while the rear plaque indicates the date. A frieze of stylized bay leaves supports a projecting cornice, which features a stylized scroll and zig-zag motif, leading up to the obelisk itself, which is divided into four sections. The inscription on the obelisk reads: 'ERECTED / BY PUBLIC SUBSCRIPTION / TO RECORD THE SERVICES OF / ALDERMAN HENRY BRIGHT / TO WHOSE UNTIRING EXERTIONS / THIS TOWN IS CHIEFLY INDEBTED / FOR ITS SUPPLY OF / PURE WATER'.
