Description
122 and 124 Parade are two houses that have been converted into shops with storage above. They were built around 1810 to 1818, with some later alterations, including changes made in the mid-20th century to the ground floor and shop front. The buildings are constructed from pinkish-brown brick in Flemish bond, featuring ashlar dressings and a concealed roof.
The structure has four storeys and four first-floor windows arranged in a 2:2 pattern. The first floor has tall 6/6 sash windows, while the second floor features a continuous sill band with 6/6 sashes. The third floor has 3/3 sashes with sills. All windows are set in plain reveals and topped with flat arches made of gauged brick. The building also has tall ridge and right end stacks with cornices.
The interior has not been inspected. Historically, the Parade was named in 1860, having previously been called Lillington Lane and then renamed Union Row around 1809. The lower section of the Parade was laid out between 1810 and 1814, with most construction occurring from 1810 to 1818. Originally built as houses, hotels, and lodging-houses, by 1850 most had transitioned to shops. The original buildings featured brick frontages.
