Description

This is a house dating from approximately 1834 to 1838, with later additions and alterations, including a rear range. It is constructed of pinkish-brown brick with painted stucco facades, and has a Welsh slate roof. The house has two storeys and three windows on the first floor. The first floor features a continuous sill band and six-over-six sash windows in plain reveals. There is a stepped frieze, cornice, a blocking course, and copings to the roofline. A roll-edged step leads to the central entrance, which has a part-glazed, four-panel door with overlight, set within a surround of Tuscan pilasters with a frieze and cornice. To the left of the entrance is a six-over-six sash window in a moulded surround. To the right is a canted bay window with three one-over-one sashes. The roof is hipped with tall ridge and end stacks having cornices; the stack on the right side has been truncated. A continuous ground-floor verandah features barley-twist posts, a circle motif frieze, and a glass roof. The left return side has a six-over-six sash window. The interior retains original joinery, including shutters to some windows. Attached to the house are lancet railings that run across the front. The railings contribute to the group value of the building.
