Description

69 and 69A Willes Road is a house that has been converted into two dwellings. It was built in the early 19th century and has undergone later additions and alterations. The building is constructed of pinkish-brown brick with painted stucco on the front and side facades, and it has a concealed roof.

The exterior features three storeys with a basement and three first-floor windows, along with a single-storey bay to the right. The ground floor displays horizontal rustication, while tall Tuscan pilaster strips with recessed panels extend from the first floor to the full height of the building. The first floor has tall 1/1 sash windows set in tooled architraves, although some are partly missing in the centre and to the right. The second floor contains 1/1 sashes with sills.

The main entrance on the ground floor is central, accessed by seven roll-edged steps leading to a part-glazed five-panel door with an overlight, all within a distyle Ionic porch that features a frieze. There are canted bays on either side of the entrance, each with three 1/1 sashes. The basement also has 1/1 sashes, and all windows are set in plain reveals. The building has a frieze and a blocking course.

To the right of the main range, there is another 1/1 sash window topped by a balustrade. The end and rear stacks have cornices. The left return of the building features two first-floor windows, horizontal rustication on the ground floor, and a band on the first floor that is surmounted by end Tuscan pilasters with recessed panels. All windows throughout the building are 1/1 sashes in plain reveals with sills, and those on the first floor have tooled architraves, a frieze, and a cornice. The building occupies a prominent corner site.
