Description
Old Manor House is a Grade II* listed building located on Main Street in Wasperton. It dates back to the early 14th century and originally served as an aisled hall house, with later additions made over the years. The structure is timber-framed and constructed of sandstone, with a brick façade that was extended in the 18th century. The northwest wing features a stone gable end, while the south and east elevations are faced with red brick from the 18th century. The roof is covered with plain tiles, featuring gabled ends and a hipped angle, along with a large brick chimney stack over the south range that has diagonal shafts. The building is two storeys high and has mostly modern casement windows set in 18th-century openings, along with a 20th-century porch.
Inside, the former hall showcases base arches from around 1300, with crown posts supported by four-way bracing and scissor bracing that work in conjunction with parallel rafters. The northwest wing is noted to have an early fireplace. Originally, the large aisled hall was a standalone structure and was owned by Coventry Priory from 1257.
