Description

Grove Fields Farmhouse, dating from around 1770, is a brick farmhouse constructed in a Flemish bond pattern. It has a low-pitched slate roof with brick coping and prominent brick stacks at the centre and ends. The building is arranged in a U-shape, with service wings extending to the rear of the main four-unit front range.

The exterior is three storeys high and originally had a four-window front. It features decorative brick plat bands and a moulded brick cornice at the top. The front door is set within a segmental-headed doorcase with an open pediment and an overlight, leading to a 20th-century door. The windows are segmental-headed, containing 19th-century two-light casements with small panes of glass. A two-storey wing to the rear left has 19th-century casements. A smaller two-storey wing on the right has a plat band, and a single-storey range runs along the rear.

The interior retains panelled doors and shutters, boxed ceiling beams, and a 19th-century stick-baluster staircase. A room on the left side of the house features an open fireplace with an 18th-century moulded wood cornice. The rear of the building has seen some changes; a gabled wing on the right has been lost, a lean-to outshut with a verandah has been added, and a gabled wing on the left remains.
