Description

Castle Bridge, built between 1790 and 1793, is a notable 18th-century ashlar sandstone bridge designed by William Eborall, based on a model by David and William Saunders. The bridge features a single span with a segmental arch, and the rustications extend throughout the soffit. It has a monumental balustrade with curved terminations at each end and a heavily moulded string course below. During the Second World War, part of the balustrade on the downstream side was damaged and has since been replaced.
