Description
The Hunting Lodge is a large house built in 1748, likely designed by Daniel Garrett, with alterations made in 1898. It is constructed of coursed ashlar and features a Gothick style. The building has a plinth and battlemented parapets, with an approximately T-shaped layout that includes a three-storey gabled central cross-wing and lower two-storey flanking wings. The south entrance is located in the central projecting cross-wing, featuring a pointed headed doorway with a plank door. Above this doorway are pointed headed coupled lancets set in a square-headed opening, and above that are five-light mullioned casements. The south elevation of the flanking wings also has pointed headed coupled lancets in square-headed openings, while the east and north elevations feature square-headed cross mullion/transom casements, all with leaded panes. On the north elevation, there is a large projecting porch with a balcony above, with stairs leading down to the left and right and a central arcade of three pointed headed arches. The building has two prominent stone chimney stacks. Inside, there is late 19th-century oak panelling and a staircase in the Renaissance style.
