Description

The Old Falcon Inn is a former inn dating from the mid to late 16th century. It features lias stone in alternating wide and narrow courses, with limestone dressings. A continuous stone drip-mould runs above the first floor. The building has timber framing with lath and plaster infill on one gable and the rear, and it is topped with a tile roof and large stone chimney stacks that have renewed brick shafts.

The inn has an L-plan layout and a high street frontage that consists of a two-storey, mid-16th century range with four windows. This section includes a timber-framed cross gable with leaded casement windows and stone mullioned windows throughout. A late 20th-century French window is present on the ground floor. The Church Street frontage features a two-window range and a late 16th-century three-storey and attic section with two symmetrical gables. The entrance door has a four-centred arch, a moulded architrave, and a hood mould. The first floor has two four-light windows with a transom, while the second floor has three-light windows and two-light windows in the gables. Wood and lead gutters are also present.

The rear of the building is entirely exposed timber framing. The interior has been altered and includes a straight flight staircase, with some exposed timber framing and a small amount of surviving wattle infill in the attic.
