Description

Windsor Court is a building located in Stratford-upon-Avon, originally constructed in the 17th century, with a refronting and rebuilding around 1800 and a restoration in the late 20th century. It was originally a barn and stabling area and is now used as shops. The structure is made of brick, with some timber-frame elements, and features a tile roof with a hipped angle and a slate roof at one end. The building is arranged in an L-shape and has two storeys.

The front facade has a two-window range and a return to Windsor Street. There is a wide entry to the rebuilt section on the left, which includes a 20th-century shop front. The first floor has two 20th-century two-light casements, one of which is located in a gabled half-dormer. The right return to Windsor Street has a four-window range with two shop fronts and 20th-century glazing in three segmental-headed windows, along with two-light casements on the first floor.

At the right end, there is a former stable from around 1800, featuring buff headers, a modillioned brick cornice, and a slate roof. This area includes a shop front and a poster above a blind segmental-headed opening with splayed reveals to the right, as well as a similar first-floor window with flanking segmental-headed windows, all fitted with 20th-century glazing. The rear of the building is similar to the front, with a central gabled wing that has 20th-century glazed infill where the former barn entrance was located. A timber-framed section of wall to the right has brick infill within square framing.

Inside, the building is noted for having original heavy roof trusses.
