Description

The Goodwins is a house located on Wyre Lane in Long Marston, dating from the 16th or 17th century, with a 19th-century cross-wing. The front wall was partly rebuilt around 1990. The main section is constructed of coursed limestone rubble and features a steeply pitched stone slate roof laid in diminishing courses. It has coped gables with finials and stone internal stacks, as well as end stacks with diagonal shafts, forming an L-plan structure.

The exterior is a single storey plus attic, with a two-storey-and-attic wing to the right. It has a three-window range. The entrance in the cross-wing includes a studded plank door set in a moulded wood door-frame and is sheltered by a gabled open timber porch. The ground floor has four 4-light recessed chamfered-mullioned windows with hoodmoulds and label stops, with the rightmost window partly obscured by a buttress. There are three 3-light similar windows on the first floor. Three gabled dormers, flush with the main wall, have 2-light stone-mullioned windows, coped gables, and finials. The left part of the building is made of limestone with rendered brick, featuring a perpendicular stack and a gabled dormer.

The two-storey wing has wooden mullioned-and-transomed windows on both the ground and first floors. Inside, there are broad beams, and the room to the left contains a fireplace with a bressumer and flanking cupboards. It also features a dog-leg stair and winder stair, four-centred stone fireplaces, panelling, plank doors, and original floorboards. There is a possibility of a good barn located at the rear.
