Description
Little Thatch is a house located on Main Street in Long Marston. It dates from the 17th century, with an addition made around 1878 and some alterations in the 20th century. The building features a timber frame with painted brick and plastered infill, topped by a thatched roof that has a brick end stack and a lower additional tiled roof.
The house has a two-unit plan and is a single storey with an attic, presenting a three-window range. The left unit displays end wall studs and braces on the plastered wall, along with a 20th-century gabled porch that has a small-panel light to the right. An eyebrow dormer features a two-light casement. The right unit has storey-height panels with rails and a brick extension at the end, along with two small lights. It also includes a 20th-century gabled dormer and a window at the end that has 20th-century two-light small-paned casements. The rear of the house is similar in design, with an end that features a datestone from 1878.
The interior has not been inspected. It is likely that Little Thatch was originally a squatter's cottage on the edge of the village, similar to Jasmine Cottage.
