Description
Sandbarn Farmhouse is a 17th-century farmhouse, later used as a house, with 19th-century additions to the rear and a late 20th-century restoration. The building is timber-framed with brick infill, set on a brick plinth, and has old tile roofs with brick stacks arranged cross-axially. It originally comprised a single unit, with cross-wings added later.
The exterior is two storeys with an attic. A 20th-century entrance, set within an open-gabled porch which projects beyond the wings, dominates the front. The windows are also 20th-century replacements, featuring four-panel square framing. The roofs are gabled. A single-storey range extends from the right return. The left return has timber framing to the right-hand portion, while the remainder is brick, incorporating a plat band and a modillioned brick cornice. This side also features 20th-century segmental-headed windows on each floor and a French window to the right. The rear elevation includes two plat bands and two gables; a central, segmental-headed entrance is shielded by a gabled canopy, flanked by canted bays of 3:2:3 lights. Segmental-headed casement windows are also present, along with two gables.
The interior has not been inspected.
